The Attachment Project

Attachment Style in Psychosis and Bipolar Disorder
(REC reference number: 07/H0805)

We are studying the attachment style and childhood experiences of people who have a history of psychosis or bipolar disorder. Attachment style is a term psychologists use to refer to the different ways people have learned to relate to the people they feel most close to, mainly from their experiences when they were young. We also want to understand whether there are any cultural differences in the attachment styles of people from African-Caribbean and White-British backgrounds. We feel that the experiences of people from African-Caribbean backgrounds have not been studied enough and we would like to change this. A better understanding of these experiences may help us to improve the experience of the clinical services people receive when in need.

The study is currently recruiting participants mainly from the Maudsley NHS Trust (www.slam.nhs.uk) and the Greater London area.

We will soon have an online version available for any interested cyber-visitor to BipolarLab.com.

In the meantime, if you are interested in participating you may first participate in our other web-survey that will give us some initial but important diagnostic and demographic information. Remember to make a note that you wish to participate in the Attachment Project as well.

For more private communication you may still use the contact form: http://www.bipolarlab.com/contact/
